| A Locate Investigation, generally speaking, is about finding a subject wherein the characteristics of the locate lack an underlying reason or motive for the person's obscurety. Examples would be former classmates, friends or someone wherein only the name is known; conversely, as in Adoption, Debtor Skip Trace or Missing Persons Investigations, there is a reason for the person's anonymity. With the following power-steps anyone can successfully find their target subject anywhere, alive or dead; however, as mentioned in the preamble, resources are necessary and skills are required. |

The formula for success lies in two basic phases or routines: an Identification Routine, and the actual Locate Routine; without completing the former, one can’t proceed to the latter.
Every investigation needs a starting point, and the Identification Routine is the first phase in a Locate Investigation and the usual starting point. There are ten important variables; the first three are required, and the remaining seven are optional but should be obtained as one proceeds through this phase. They are: (1) – Name, (2) Aliases or AKA’s, (3) – State, (4) – County, (5) City, (6) – Last Known Address, (7) – Date of LKA, (8) – Age, (9) - Date of Birth, and (10) – Social Security Number (if available). With this information, which isolates the subject, anyone can be located anywhere.
The second phase is the Locate Routine, which fundamentally consists of only one variable that almost always involves contact with various sources and essentially consists of one ingredient - telephone interviews - the all important skill necessary to ferret out the subject. In the current climate with privacy issues paramount, it is vital to have a plausible reason or appeal when making this contact. It doesn't matter who it is, most people want to help, just give them a reason for doing so.
